NOTE: We understand everyone has formulas to prepping footballs. This is for people who want to learn or add to there routine. We are constantly learning and getting feedback from teams about techniques that may help, we will post videos soon (JAN 1)
1. Scrub each panel for 5 minutes.
2. Apply a quarter size shaving cream to each panel, avoid the holes and laces.
3. Let it sit for 15-30 minutes and scrub all of the shaving cream off the ball.
4. Apply a dime size of conditioner to each side of the panels. (meaning focus on each side of the panels = 2 dime size for each panel)
5. Apply 2 layers if needed, let it sit for a few hours.
6. Make sure mud has moisture. (milkshake). Apply small amount of water if needed.
7. Let some air out of the ball for the leather to relax.
8. Apply mud to each panel. Make sure all spaces and pebbles also covered. If there's orange (leather) revealing apply more mud to that area.
9. Let it sit for 24+ hours. This will let the mud settle into the pores and relax the leather even more.
10. When ready use a hard brush to scrape off the excess mud. This is labor intensive, our mud should be easier to take off. Focus on each panel.
11. If you want apply a 2nd round of mud for a darker/staining look.
12. Apply the football balm to clean the ball and seal the ball from weather . Only use a dime size amount to each side of EACH panel. This will assure you are doing it evenly and let the ball dry for a few hours.
13. Apply the wilson tack bar to each panel by applying it to the leather first. 3-5 swipes to each panel.
13. Scrub each panel again for about 15-30 minutes to make it ready to go.
14. THROW!
DONTS:
1. Don't wipe the ball with a rag, especially when wet.
2. Stay away from the holes near the laces
3. Avoid scratching the shiny labels with the hard brush
4. Don’t “cake” the ball. Use enough to cover it. Practice makes perfect. Find the right balance.
